Smith, Caleb Blood b. April 16, 1808 d. January 7, 1864 Civil War Presidential Cabinet Secretary, US Congressman. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but moved early in life with his family to Ohio, where he attended Cincinnati College and Miami University. Passing the bar in 1828, he set up a practice in Connersville, Indiana. Four years later, he founded the Indiana Sentinel, a newspaper serving the Whig party.
