MacDonough, Thomas b. December 31, 1783 d. November 10, 1825 Captain in the U.S. Navy during the War of 1812. Command a division of gunboats that included 6 sloops and 2 gunboats in Lake Champlain. Defeated the British in the Battle of Plattsburgh on Lake Champlain which is noted as one of the most decisive battles in American History. It prevented the invasion and conquest of New York State as effectively in 1814 as the surrender of the British under Burgoyne during the Revolutionary War. .
