A native of Saint-Prosper (Québec), he studied at the college of Arthabaska and took an advanced training course in English in the United States in 1885 and 1886. Guillemette, Alphonse-Edgar b. June 25, 1877 d. August 23, 1950 Canadian statesman. A native of Princeville (Québec), he settled in Shawinigan in 1899. He began as a baker, then became a merchant of hay and grains. He served as alderman on the town council of Shawinigan, in 1901 and 1902, then from 1909 to 1914. He tried unsuccesfully to be elected as a Liberal representative for the Saint-Maurice district in the by-election of October 19, 1920.
