Diaz, Rodrigo 'El Cid Campeador' b. 1043 d. June 10, 1099 Spanish National Hero and ruler of Valencia. Seved both Christian and Moorish lords and kings alike, before being exiled and taking Valencia as his own. Died defending it against the invasions of the Berber leader Yusuf. During the remainder of the battle, the cadaver Cid was placed atop his horse, Bavieca, and placed where his men could see him, unaware that he was already dead.
