He was an English Doctor, serving as a temporary Captain in the Indian Medical Service, British Indian Army. On October 22, 1919, he was the Senior Medical Officer in charge of the Khajuri Post, Waziristan, India, when a British convoy had been attacked in the vicinity of the post and men had been wounded.
