Ruthven, William b. May 21, 1893 d. January 12, 1970 World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the 22nd Battalion of the Victoria Australian Imperial Forces. At Ville-sur-Ancre, France, May 19, 1918, Sergeant Ruthven's company suffered many casualties and his company commander was severely wounded. Smith, Issy b. September 16, 1890 d. September 10, 1940 World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the 1st Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. At Ypres, Belgium, on April 26, 1915, Corporal Smith on his own initiative, went forward towards enemy positions, to the assistance of a severely wounded man.
