He was born in Wetsbury, England, but spent most of his life in Australia, where he developed into one of the country's leading painters of his time. Buckley (Sexton), Maurice Vincent b. April 13, 1891 d. January 27, 1921 World War I Victoria Cross recipient. Buckley was born in Hawthorn and educated at the Christian Brothers' school, Abbotsford. He was working at Warrnambool when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on December 18, 1914. He was posted to the 13th Light Horse Regiment and embarked for Egypt on June 25, 1915. Joynt, William Donovan b. March 19, 1889 d. May 5, 1986 World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant, in 8th Battalion, Victoria Australian Forces. On August 23, 1918, during an assault on the Germans at Chuignes, France, Lieutenant Joynt's company commander was killed. He immediately took charge of the company, dashing out in front of his men, he led a magnificent frontal bayonet attack and secured the critical situation. He gained much of experience in the Middle East, and was considered a talented reporter, editor, producer, and won much praise for his picture taking. He covered the Gulf War in 1991 from Saudi Arabia on a freelance basis. He also covered stories on the Ayatollah Khomeini reign, a recent interview with an Iraqi defector in Bangkok, and a 2002 report from aboard the HMAS Manoora, which was on interdiction duty in the Gulf. Peeler, Walter b. August 9, 1887 d. May 23, 1968 World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lance Corporal in the 3rd Pioneer Battalion, Australian Imperial Forces. At Broodseinde Ridge, Belgium, October 4, 1917, Lance Corporal Peeler was directed to go forward to find the German machine firing on his troops.
