Gandil, Arnold 'Chick' b. January 19, 1888 d. December 13, 1970 Major League Baseball Player. He was a first baseman making his debut with the Chicago White Sox on April 14, 1910. Elected to represent Iowa as an At-Large Delegate in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1846 to 1847. An icon in the wine industry, after helping his family build a successful winery in California, formerly the Charles Krug vineyard, he was ousted by his brother in 1965. Simmons, William T. b. January 29, 1843 d. December 27, 1908 Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Army at Greene County, Illinois in January, 1843. He served as a Lieutenant with Company C, 11th Missouri Infantry. On December 16, 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee, he captured the flag of the 34th Alabama Infantry (C.S.A.). Being the first to enter the works, he shot and wounded the enemy color bearer. His citation was issued February 24, 1865.
