After graduating from Boston College, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 1987 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. At 6 foot 5 and 290 pounds, he was an offensive guard with the Saints for six years from 1987 to 1992. He was inducted in the Boston College Hall of Fame in 2001.
