Whittington, William Madison b. May 4, 1878 d. August 20, 1962 US Congressman. An attorney, Whittington practiced law first in Roxie, Mississippi, and later in Greenwood, where he was a member of the City Council. He served in the Mississippi Senate for eight years before running for Congress as a Democrat in 1924. A Representative from Mississippi in thirteen consecutive Congresses, from March 1925 until January 1951, Whittington chose not to run for reelection in 1950.
