Hagood, Johnson b. February 21, 1829 d. January 4, 1898 Civil War Confederate Brigadier General, South Carolina Governor. An 1847 graduate of The Citadel Military Academy, he was a South Carolina lawyer and planter. After South Carolina seceded from the Union, he was appointed a Brigadier General in the state militia, and was present at the April 1861 bombardment of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor that opened the Civil War. Patterson, James O'Hanlon b. June 25, 1857 d. October 25, 1911 US Congressman. Born in Barnwell, South Carolina, he attended Augusta College, Georgia, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1886 and commenced to practice law in Barnwell, South Carolina. He was probate judge of Barnwell County, (1888-92) and a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives, (1899-1904).
