Murphy, James T. b. 1839 d. January 11, 1904 Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Private in Company L, 1st Connecticut Artillery for action on March 25, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "A piece of artillery having been silenced by the enemy, this soldier voluntarily assisted in working the piece, conducting himself throughout the engagement in a gallant and fearless manner."
