Kempner, Isaac Herbert b. 1873 d. August 1, 1967 Formed the what was to become Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land (formerly Sugarland),Texas. In partnership with William T. Eldridge, Kempner purchased several plantations and the failing sugar mill there in 1906. After Eldridge's death in 1932, the Kempner family consolidated and renamed the venture Imperial Sugar Company (which Kempner named after the Imperial Hotel in New York City).
