Winchester, Gen. James b. February 5, 1752 d. July 27, 1826 United States Army Brigadier General. At the start of the War of 1812, he was a Captain in the Tennessee Militia. In March 1812, he was commissioned a Brigadier General in the US Army, in command of the Army of the Northwest, Ohio. After engaging in several skirmishes with British forces, he was sent to part in an attempt to recapture Frenchtown, Michigan.
