Adams, John b. July 1, 1825 d. November 30, 1864 Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. The son of Irish immigrants, he entered the United States Military Academy in 1841, graduating 25th in his class. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Dragoons-United States Regular Army, he served under Captain Philip Kearny in the Mexican War. Bass, Ross b. March 17, 1918 d. January 1, 1993 US Congressman. During World War II, Bass served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was elected as a U.S. Representative from Tennessee in 1955. Brown, John C. b. January 6, 1827 d. August 17, 1889 Civil War Confederate Major General, Tennessee Governor. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he was a successful lawyer who opposed secession when he joined the Confederate Infantry in 1861. Commissioned Colonel of the 3rd Tennessee Infantry, he was at the battle and surrender of Fort Donelson. Eslick, Edward Everett b. April 19, 1872 d. June 14, 1932 US Congressman. A Democrat, he represented Tennessee's 7th District in the Sixty-ninth and three succeeding Congresses, serving from 1925 until his death in office. Eslick attended Bethel College in Russellville, Kentucky, was admitted to the bar in 1893, and set up law practice in his hometown of Pulaski, Tennessee.
