Royce, Homer Elihu b. June 14, 1819 d. April 24, 1891 US Congressman. He attended the academies of St. Albans and Enosburg, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in East Berkshire, Vermont, in 1844. He was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives (1846-47), Vermont State prosecuting attorney in 1848 and served in the Vermont State Senate, (1849-51). In 1857, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1861. Royce, Stephen b. August 12, 1787 d. November 11, 1868 Governor of Vermont. He grew up in Tinmouth and graduated from Middlebury College in 1807. He taught school in Sheldon, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1809. Royce was Franklin County State's Attorney from 1816 to 1818. He served in the Vermont House from 1815 to 1816 and 1822 to 1824. Royce was a Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court from 1825 to 1827, and again from 1829 to 1846.
