Locatelli, Pietro b. September 3, 1695 d. March 30, 1764 Violinist, Composer. He was regarded as one of the great violin virtuosos of his day. His collection "The Art of the Violin" (1733), comprising 12 solo concertos and 24 Caprices, was widely influential in developing the technique of his instrument. Pietro Antonio Locatelli was born in Bergamo, Italy. A child prodigy on the violin, he trained in the instrumental ensemble of Bergamo Cathedral and at 16 decided to further his education in Rome.
