Eaton, Horace b. June 22, 1804 d. July 4, 1855 Governor of Vermont. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1825 and Castleton Medical College in 1828, teaching school to pay his tuition. Eaton practiced medicine in Enosburg and also served in local offices, including Town Clerk. A Whig, he served in the Vermont Senate in 1837, and again from 1839 to 1842. Eaton was then elected Lieutenant Governor, serving from 1843 to 1846, and Governor, serving from from 1846 to 1848. As Governor, Eaton was an active opponent of the Mexican War.
