Hoffman, Elmer Joseph b. July 7, 1899 d. June 25, 1976 US Congressman. He completed his education in the Wheaton public schools and the enlisted in the Army for service during World War I. He served in the Artillery in France and afterwards returned to Illinois to assist in operating the family farm. Hoffman also operated a trucking business, which he owned from 1919 to 1930. In 1930 he became a deputy in the DuPage County Sheriff's Department, serving until 1938, when he was elected Sheriff.
