Burchard, Horatio Chapin b. September 22, 1825 d. May 14, 1908 US Congressman. He graduated from New York's Hamilton College in 1850, moved to Illinois and became an attorney. From 1863 to 1866 he was a member of the Illinois House. He won an 1869 special election as a Republican to fill the US House of Representatives seat left vacant when Elihu B. Wasburne resigned to become Secretary of State and then Minister to France. Burchard served the remainder of Washburne's term and was elected to four full terms, serving from 1869 to 1879.
