Kodama Shrine This shrine was built in 1918 to to deify General Gentaro Kodama (1852-1906). General Kodama served as the Chief of Staff of the Japanese army in Manchuria during the Russo-Japanese Ward (1904-05) and his leadership was largely responsible for Japan's success in the war. Of special interest to visitors to the shrine are stone sculptures of lion-like dogs (Koma-inu) at the entrance.
