  Vermont Governor, US Senator. He served as Governor of Vermont from 1937 to 1940. He was the elected as a Senator from Vermont to the United States Senate to fill vacancy caused by death of Ernest W. Gibson, and served from November 5, 1940 to January 3, 1975.
