Lowe, William Warren b. October 12, 1831 d. May 18, 1898 Brevet Brigadier General in American Civil War. After graduating from West Point in 1854, he was assigned frontier duty until the outbreak of the Civil War. During the war, he was a captain of cavalry through the Manassas campaign. In the winter of 1861-62, he organized the 5th regiment of Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, of which he was made colonel. Millard, Joseph Hopkins b. April 20, 1836 d. January 13, 1922 US Senator. He came to the United States when he was 14 years old. The family settled in Jackson County, Iowa. He came to Omaha in October 1856 to work in the real estate firm of Barrows Millard & Company. In January 1867 he became the cashier of the Omaha National Bank. Later he was the president of the bank and helped to organize the South Omaha Bank. Strickland, Silas A. b. September 17, 1830 d. March 31, 1878 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. At the outset of the Civil War, he was Adjutant of the 1st Nebraska Infantry and was Acting Assisstant Adjutant General on the staff of Brigadier General John M. Thayer. He was made Colonel of the 50th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was brevetted Brigadier General for gallant and meritorious services during the war. Wilson, Anna b. May 27, 1835 d. October 27, 1911 Folk Figure. She was a Madam in Omaha who was the mistress of Dan Allan (a well-known river boat gambler in and around the Omaha area). After Dan died she started investing in real estate and amassed a large amount of money. As Anna's life was drawing to a close in 1911, she donated the mansion--land and all--to the City of Omaha for use as an emergency hospital. She asked only $125.00 a month rent until her death.
