Brown, Harvey b. September 6, 1795 d. March 31, 1874 Civil War Union Brevet Major General. An 1818 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, he fought in the Mexican War, and was Colonel of the 5th United States Artillery when the Civil War started. He was offered a Volunteer Brigadier General commission, which he turned down to remain in the Regular Army.
