Born Pittsylvania County, Virginia his family purchased land in Randolph County, Alabama before 1860. Bev's parents were Louise Colley of Halifax Co VA and Capt. Bird H Ford. By 1875 Bev was married to Ella S. He was a member of B.H. Ford's Company of Randolph County Reserves CSA.

Beverly's father, Bird H Ford is best known for his founding of the Mounted Alabama Home Guard. He was a member of the Roanoke No. 132 Chapter of the Freemasons of Alabama. Bird was a grandson of Henry and Frances Ford of Colonial Virginia.
