Violet Elizabeth Fletcher, 73, of Beatrice died at her home on Monday night, Oct. 29, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1939, at rural Virginia and attended school in Virginia and Filley, graduating from Filley High School in 1957. She graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce and worked at the Noble Law Office for ten years. She was married in 1966 to Gerald L. Fletcher, and they later divorced.

She cleaned homes for ten years before continuing her education at the Lincoln Business College. She then worked for the Lancaster County Child Support Division and Nebraska Workforce Development in the unemployment tax department. She was a dedicated single mother and raised two loving children. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice, where she was active in a church circle and Extension club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one son, Joel Fletcher and wife Karen Vinella, Esquire of Great Falls, Va.; one daughter, Dr. Julie Fletcher of Norfolk, Neb.; one granddaughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Fletcher; two sisters, Mildred Radebaugh Warren and husband Bob of Wymore and Shirley Janssen and husband Virgil Schildt of Lincoln; three aunts, Clara Buss of Adams and Meta Otto and Ina Jurgens both of Beatrice; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank W. and Elsie Johnson Janssen.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Glenn Schacht and Ernest Waltke, PMA, officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Filley Cemetery of Filley. A memorial has been established to Susan G. Komen for the Cure/Nebraska and the Alzheimer's Association. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. A guest book for signatures will be available at the Fox Funeral Home from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, with the family meeting and greeting relatives and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
