Laniece Renee Thompson, 54, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 in Merkel. Laniece was born March 1, 1958 in Snyder, TX. She spent her childhood in Indiana before moving to Abilene when she was a teenager. She graduated from Cooper High School and Cosmetology School and worked as a hairdresser for 22 years at The Hair Parlor. She married Robert Thompson in 1988 in Merkel where they made their home. She enjoyed making jewelry and loved spending time with her grandchildren more than anything. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Laniece is survived by her husband, Robert Thompson; three children, Juston Gray and wife Elizabeth of Abilene, Alyssa Ware and husband Scott of Abilene, Alett Gray of Dallas; four grandchildren, Ashlyn, Auston, and Aidon Gray, Tavin Ware; mother, Verna Jo Gabbard; two sisters, Lecia Schembre, Lois McIntire. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations in Laniece's honor to Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st Street, Abilene, TX 79605. Laniece's 1st married Ronald Loyd Gray on 10 Sep 1977 and gave birth to their two children: Juston and Alett. Her 2nd marriage to Robert Davis Thompson was on 15 Oct 1988. Robert and Laniece did not have any children.

One year later she moved again with her family to Kokomo, Indiana. She remained in Kokomo until 1974 when she and her mother and step-father moved back to Abilene, Texas where she remained for the rest of her life.
