Herbert G. Black, 80, formerly of Torrington, died Tuesday at the Masonic Home, Wallingford, where he had lived for 10 years. He was a member of Union Lodge, AF and AM of Thomaston, and the Masonic Veterans Association. He had been a Mason more than 50 years.

He leaves a daughter, Mrs. William A. Morgan of Granby, and two grandchildren.

Masonic funeral services will be held at the Masonic Home Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Arthur E. Teale of Granby will officiate at services in Granby Center Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Herbert G. Black, 80, a former dog warden, fire warden, and game protector, died Tuesday at the Masonic Home in Wallingford where he lived for the past 10 years. For several years he was secretary and treasurer of the Litchfield County Fire Wardens' Association. He was the first city dog warden, appointed after the adoption of the city charter in 1923. Mr. Black was also a former truant officer and was one of the enumerators for Torrington in the 1920 census.

A native of Washington, he lived in Torrington 40 years. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. William Morgan of Granby, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Masonic Home in Wallingford. Burial will be in Granby Cemetery.
