Arthur Sumner Adams, father of Fire Chief John S. Adams, died at his home, 2 Ocean avenue, last Thursday, Feb. 14, on his 83rd birthday.

A native of Marblehead, he was the son of the late John C. and Hattie C. (Davis) Adams.

He was a former railroad employee, Town Auditor, member of the Board of Health, Representative and Senator from 1908 to 1914; a former Marblehead fireman, member of the local Masons, the Chapter and Commandery of Masons in Salem, local Red Men and Past Noble Grand of Atlantic Lodge, No. 55, I.O.O.F.

Surviving him and two daughters, Mrs. Edna A. Churchill and Mrs. Ruth A. Conley; three sons, Fire Chief John S. Adams and fireman Arthur S. Adams of this town and Robert W. Adams of Reading; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from St. Michael's Church, Sunday afternoon.
