Frank Sotelo, 87, of Wapato died Monday.
Mr. Sotelo was born in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippine Islands, and raised in the Philippines. He immigrated to California and then to Wapato in 1932. He was a farmer in the Wapato area for a number of years until retiring.
Survivors include four sons, Gregory Sotelo of Wapato, Pete Sotelo and Frank Sotelo of Yakima and Robert Sotelo of Centralia, Wash.; a daughter, Judy Cooper of Tenino, Wash.; a brother, Sammy Sotelo of Bakersfield, Calif.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at Merritt Funeral Home. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Merritt Funeral Home Chapel. Concluding services and burial will be in the Reservation Community Memorial Park, west of Wapato.
Merritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

1914 - 2007
Sammy Sotelo July 3, 1914 - Mar. 16, 2007 Sammy Sotelo was born in Sinait, Illocos Sur, Philippines and reared in a family of 7 brothers and sisters. He and his brother, Frank (now deceased), first came to the United States in the 1930's. In 1942, Sammy enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with distinction throughout the Pacific Theater. He attained the rank of Corporal and earned many medals, including a Bronze Star. In recognition of his military service the U.S. government granted Sammy, U.S. citizenship. Sammy returned to the Philippines after WWII to complete his education. He earned a BA from the University of the East and an MA in Banking and Finance from Far Eastern University. His published Master's Thesis is still used as a textbook by the University. In 1954 Sammy married Sally, the love of his life, and two years later Sammy and Sally were blessed by the birth of their son, Alan. When Alan was nine months old, Sammy brought his family to the U.S. They settled in Bakersfield, CA, becoming one of the pioneer Filipino families in the area. During his long life Sammy enjoyed two careers. He was an insurance underwriter and a chef. His culinary skills were legend, and his services were sought after by restaurants and country clubs throughout the area. Sammy retired in 1979. Lucky, indeed, were the friends and relatives invited to one of Sammy and Sally's wonderful dinner parties! Sammy was a devout man and was a member and supporter of St. Francis Of Assisi Church for over 40 years. He was a patriotic man and proud of his membership in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a caring and unselfish man, always willing to help a friend. But his true passion in life was his family. He wanted nothing more than their happiness. He adored his wife, son and daughter-in-law, and considered his two granddaughters to be his crowning achievement! Sammy is survived by his beloved Sally, his wife of 52 years; his son, Alan and daughter-in-law, Cynthia; his granddaughters, Samantha and Francesca; and two sisters, Caridad and Rosario. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, God-children and friends living in the Philippines, U.S., and Canada. Viewing begins Sunday, March 25th, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Holy Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 26th, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Francis Of Assisi Church.
