He trained as a blacksmith; however, he became a hotel proprietor/manager beginning about 1887 with the opening of the Fiske House in South Hope, Maine. He sold the South Hope hotel and moved on to manage the Lancey House in Pittsfield, Maine about 1890, he left Pittsfield about 1892, relocating in Waterville where he managed the Bay View House. By the early 1900's he was the proprietor of the Fiske House in Damariscotta, Maine.

The Rockland Courier-Gazette posted his death in their Oct. 23, 1923 edition (p. 7, col. 5). It states he had been ill for three years and had given up hotel management due to illness.
