Death Takes Chas. A. Cass, N. P. Engineer
Charles Allen Cass, 63, a former engineer for the Northern Pacific Railway company and an employe of the company for 42 years before his retirement some time ago, died Sunday at a local hospital where he had been ill for two years.  For many years he was in the passenger service for the N. P. between Seattle and Ellensburg and Seattle and Tacoma. He was a native of Missouri and on coming to the Northwest, he settled in Cle Elum.  He had been a resident of Auburn for 15 years and prior to that had resided in Tacoma.  He had a wide acquaintance here and was one of the most popular of the old time engineers hereabouts. He was a member of the Elks and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and as he passed away, 100 members and wives of the B. L. E. Division 833 gathered in the Auburn Masonic hall to honor him and three other retired engineers of the N. P., John Peterson and N. O. Eastman of Auburn and Alex Taylor of Tacoma, with a dinner given by the wives of the members.  Taylor was unable to be at the dinner as he is in Florida now. Funeral services for Mr. Cass will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Taylor-Lemar mortuary, Auburn, with burial at Calvary cemetery, Tacoma. Mr. Cass is survived by his wife, Maude of the home; sons, Louis S. of Anchorage, Alaska, and Charles of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughters, Mrs. Margaret McKee of Tacoma and Mrs. Delia Mae Nelson and Mrs. Mary Ann Uhrich of Seattle.
