Raymond served as a First Lieutenant and pursuit pilot, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Before enlistment in 1939 he was employed at Bell Aircraft experimental department. . He had trained at Parks Air College, and Randolph Field in Texas and was part of the first Air Fprce sent to the Philippines to bolster defenses.

He had sent a cable March 3rd 1942 to his family that said " I can not write. No news is good news. Love." -The Buffalo News April 11th 1942 Sat.page 3 before they knew what happened.

His family learned from the War Department he was a POW in Jan 27th 1943. What they did not know is that he had already died

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

Raymond "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army at the POW Osaka Main Camp, Chikko, Osaka during the war. He was awarded the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.
