MRS. ELSIE McDOWELL NICOL

Mrs. Elsie McDowell Nicol, 77, wife of Dr. William R. Nicol, of North Wales, Great Britain, and youngest daughter of Daniel D. and Eleanor McDowell, formerly of Waverly, died Tuesday evening at Canandaigua. The remains were brought to Elmira and will repose at the Smith & Fudge funeral home until the funeral, which will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Woodlawn Chapel. The Rev. Frederick Henstridge will officiate. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Nicol was reared and had formerly taught school in Waverly, where she married Dr. Nicol in 1880. After several years spent in Wales, Great Britain, it was determined the climate did not agree with her and she returned to this country. She had resided at different times during the past years in Elmira, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jamestown.

Mrs. Nicol is survived by two sisters, Miss Frances McDowell of Jamestown and Mrs. Laura McD Boyd of St. Louis, Mo., two nieces, Mrs. Jessie Shortz of Wilke-Barre, Pa., and Mrs. Helen Defendorf of Washington, D.C.
