MICHAEL R. LEE
June 4, 1946 - Aug. 9, 2011

Michael Ray Lee of Stanwood went home peacefully to his Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, Aug. 9, 2011.
Mike was born in Mount Vernon to Carl and Atha Lee and was raised in Stanwood. He graduated in 1965. After high school, be became a welder and worked in the shipyards. He moved to the Sedro-Woolley area to raise his three sons David, Josh and Jason. He enjoyed being active in their daily lives.
Mike was in the Skagit County Sheriff's Posse.
Mike married the love of his life and his lifelong partner, Vickie Nielson, on Valentine's Day 1981. They made their permanent home in Stanwood and had their daughter Michelle, who stole his heart from the start.
Mike made friends easily with his happy-go-lucky attitude. He loved going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He liked a good game of poker, bowling with friends, scuba diving, or just sitting around a campfire talking with friends and family. But his true passion was horses. He would raise them from babies, break and train them, and then go off to the racetrack.
He always had a smile or a story to share about his horse days. The last three years, Mike showed an amazing, willing attitude and strength in his faith. He fought his way back, never feeling bitter but blessed.
He looked forward to Tuesday "movie day" with Denny, going to pulmonary rehab to see his friends he called family and treating himself afterward to a Slurpee. He enjoyed Sandy bringing him fresh fruit daily, and after dinner, family game night.
You could usually find Mike outside on nice days teaching his grandson Jordin how to throw a ball or swing a bat. He loved being Grandpa to his grandkids.
Mike is survived by his wife Vickie, sons David, Josh and Jason (Dawn) Lee, daughter Michelle Lee, grandchildren J.D., Harley, Jordin, Raegan and Kendall Lee, sister Marlene (Rudy) Schuster, brothers Denny, Bob (Penny), and Jim (Cindy) Lee, mother-in-law Sandy (Spencer) Jacobson, brother-in-law Gordon (Valerie) Nielson, and many nephews, nieces and cousin.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and father-in-law.
Michael is going to be deeply missed! Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19, at the Stanwood Foursquare Church.
Arrangements are under the care of Gilbertson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
