JAMES LEAMON BAXTER
James Leamon Baxter, 70, a lofe long resident of Old Fort, died at his residence Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2002.
He was the son of the late Leamon Newt Baxter and Leara Escol Ingle Baxter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann L. Baxter; brother, W.T. Baxter; two sisters, Jenny Mae Brooks and Mildred Snyder.
He was a U.S. Veteran of the Korean War, a member of VFW Post 2598, American Legion Post 81.
He was retired from the VAA Plant in Chattanooga and Johns Mansville Fiberglass Co. with 15 years of service.
He was a well-known square dance caller, who never met a stranger and will be sadly missed by friends and family.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Baxter and his wife, Ann; and Eddie Young all of Old Fort; two daughters, Darlene Baxter Cross and her husband, Lynn, of Cleveland and Darlene Longley of Old Fort; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Oma Lee Harris of Crandall, Ga. and Kathryn Carver and her husband, Ken, of Old Fort; his caretaker, Andy Dickens; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Randall Headrick officiating. Interment will follow in Dill Cemetery with Military honors. Al Bramlett, Tyson Bramlett, Gary Harris, Doug Carver, Bryan Carver and Ricky Brooks will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
