Vernon E. Hense, 66, of 351 Young St., Cheboygan, Mich, a former Alburnett and Cedar Rapids resident, died following a sudden illness. He was born the son of Charles E. and Grace Mentzer Hense on April 12, 1912 at Alburnett. On July 20, 1934 at Flint, Mich., he was married to Myrtle Stinchfield. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids with the Class of 1929, and was a graduate of the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich. Mr. Hense retired in 1970 as Chief Process Engineer for Buick Motor Division of General Motors where he had been employed 40 years. He was a member of the St. Charles Church of Cheboygan, a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Society of Metals.
Surviving are his wife; six sons, Richard E. of Cheboygan, James R. of Walnut Creek, Calif., Paul A. of Grand Rapids, Mich., Charles V. Phillip J., and Donald F., all of Flint, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a one son, David Lee.
Services were 11 a.m. Jan. 2 at St. John's Vianney Catholic church in Flint, Mich. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery at Flint. A memorial has been established for the Heart Fund. For local contact, friends and relatives may call the Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion.
