Juanita Mason, 94, of Iago, went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. She was born April 14, 1917 in Rockwood, a daughter of the late John William Peterson and Annis Frankum Peterson. She was Pentecostal by faith and was a member of the Iago Federated Church.

On Feb. 22, 1935, she married John Powell "Pal" Mason in Wharton. Pal preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1983 after 48 years of marriage.

In addition to her parents and husband, Juanita was preceded in death by her daughter, Zane Yvonne Hobizal; sister, Gala Mae Franklin; and brothers, Walter Louis Peterson and Vernie V. Peterson.

She worked with the Boling-Iago telephone exchange. As a telephone operator, Juanita enjoyed serving the communities of Boling, Iago and Pledger and made many lifelong friendships during that time. She also enjoyed working as a filing clerk with Sterling Vacuum Service and as a ward clerk at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

She loved going to church, hugging, observing nature, reading, spending time with children, eating at Mach's Restaurant, solving word puzzles and playing lively domino games with family and friends.

Visitation was held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at Iago Federated Church in Iago with Rev. Oliver Southall officiating. Interment will follow at Wharton City Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Teri Mason of Richmond; son-in-law, Vincent Hobizal of Boling; grandchildren Michael Hobizal and wife Janet of Hungerford, Mark Hobizal of Houston, Matt Hobizal and wife Barbara of Boling and Marti Wostarek and husband Tim of Boling; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Michael Hobizal, Mark Hobizal, Matt Hobizal, Tim Wostarek, Mitchell Hobizal, Zac Hession, and Mason Hobizal.

Honorary pallbearers are Amber Marecka, Peyton Wostarek, Luke Wostarek, David Acosta, Brandon Walker, Jacob Walker and Michael Davis.
