Mrs. Marvin Skillings Dies

Mrs. Katherine (Katie) Skillings wife of Marvin Skillings of Lance Creek died Saturday morning at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk where she had been hospitalized for the past month and a half.

Katherine Amend was born June 4, 1901 at Lincoln, Nebr., the daughter of Henry and Anna Katherine Amend. When a child of seven years, the family homesteaded near Keeline. On November 20, 1920, she was married to Marvin Skillings at the home of her parents. The couple have made Lance Creek their home for many years where Mr. Skillings was an employee of the Ohio Oil Company for 42 years, having retired in 1963. She was a lifetime member of the Keeline Lutheran Church and later of the church in Lusk.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin; two sisters, Emma Gaukel of Twin Falls, Idaho and Marie Cox of Grass Creek, Wyo.; three brothers, John Amend of Lance Creek, Henry Amend and Fred Amend both of Lost Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Peet Chapel in Lusk with the Rev. Leroy Kellerman, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist, and Mrs. A. B. DeCastro and Mrs. Emerson Bonner sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Pall bearers were Harry Runser, Leo Heins, Harry Brown, Orval Hoyt, Willard Croft and Linden Nelson.
