According to family records, Carl Manderson's wife, Anna, was born in Söderhamn, Sweden.

Though the precise date of Anna's marriage to Carl Manderson is not known, the 1930 US Census shows that Carl was 23 at the time of his first marriage, and Anna was 24. Carl's obituary lists his birth year as 1888, so it can be estimated he and Anna married in about 1912, which correlates with the births of their known children:

1. Alice Kristine Manderson (21 Sep 1914 - 24 Jul 1992)
2. Margaret Kathryn Manderson (b. 18 October 1917)

US Census Records for Portland, Oregon, and many Portland City Directories show that Carl and Anna lived together as husband and wife from 1920-1940.

The 1940 US Census shows them living in the same household, but Anna is listed as the Head of Household, living with her daughter, Margaret, and widowed sister, Inga Anderson. Carl is also living in the house, but listed as a 'boarder' (both Carl & Anna are shown in this census to be 'married').

In 1942, on his WWII Draft Registration card, Carl listed "Mrs. Anna Manderson" as the person who would always know his address, even though they were living in separate households at the time (as Carl listed a different address for each of them).

Published in The Portland Oregonian, on Thursday, 14 October 1947; Pg 13; Section titled "Divorce Applications":
"Manderson - Anna H. against Carl G."

To date, no record of divorce has been found.

For this reason, Anna's surname at the time of her death is not known.
