Leah Matilda Edwards was born May 30, 1857 in Abergele, Denbighshire, N. Wales. She emigrated with her parents John and Eleanor Charlotte (Waylett) Edwards and three other children to the U.S. from Wales in 1861. Eleanor and John had converted to Mormonism sometime in the late 1850s. They sailed on the ship SS Manchester from Liverpool on April 16, 1861. Late that summer they joined a wagon train to Utah, but early in September, Leah Maria Edwards died. She was four-years old. The cause of her death is unknown. She is buried in a remote location on the Big Sandy River near Farson, Wyoming. Her grave was rediscovered in 2001. The family settled in Salt Lake City, but information about their later lives is scanty.
