BONAR, John Melvin, Sr., 85, of 50 Crawford Ave., Cameron, W. Va., died Friday, March 5, 2004 at home.

He was born February 9, 1919, in Marshall County, a son of the late David Atley Bonar and Erna Kinkade Bonar Barry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eldora Mae Hewitt Bonar in 1989, two daughters, Shirley K. Shook, Mary Ann Winters; a son, John Melvin Jr.; two brothers, Colonel Robert L. Bonar, Charles Howard Bonar; a stepmother, Mamie Pyles Bonar; a grandson, Jeffrey Galentine.

He was a Protestant by faith, and Army Veteran of WWII, a member of the IOOF Lodge, Cameron, Cameron American Legion Post #18, and also a member of the Cameron Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a retired employee with the Marshall County Schools.

He is survived by a son, Ralph "Doots" (Phyllis) Bonar of Cameron; two daughters, Christina Galentine of Burgettstown, PA, Bonnie (Nelson) Whipkey of Moundsville; three half brothers, Thomas Barry, Jack Barry, Terry Atley Bonar of Cameron; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Bonar of St. Albans, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Anderson Funeral Home, 39 Maple Ave., Cameron on Sunday, March 7, 2004 from 1-7 p.m. where services will be held Monday, March 8, 2004 at 11 a.m. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Cameron.
