OBITUARY,
Mrs. Nancy Ann Bottorff was born November 14, 1839, in Monroe county, Mo., and died the morning of December 4, 1902. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Heninger, moved from Missouri to Iowa and settled in Keokuk county in 1846. Here she grew to womanhood and on January 25. 1857, was united in marriage to E. W. Bottorff and that same year moved onto a farm adjoining Martinsburg on the north, where all her married life was spent.
To Mr. and Mrs. Bottorff were born four children. The eldest, Mrs. Etta Gordon, died October 2, 1890. The only son, J. W. Bottorff, lives at Kirkville. Miss Ellen Bottorff, lives at home and Mrs. Eva Dickens at Competine. Four grandchildren survive, Arthur Bottorff, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bottorff, of Kirkville, and Mamie, Vera, and Roy Dickens, the children of Mrs. Eva Dickens of Competine.
Mrs. Bottorff’s last sickness was a painful one, extending over a number of months, and although her suffering was great, yer through all she exercised a commendable spirit of fortitude. Her last hours, however, were peaceful. She was always the estimable woman, the kind, considerate neighbor and friend, the tender and affectionate mother and the ever faithful wife. Her death has brought a heavy sorrow to many hearts and the bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the community.
The funeral services were held at the late home on Friday, December 5, conducted by her pastor, Rev. David Clark, of the Martinsburg Presbyterian church and her body was laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery, awaiting the morning of the resurrection.
