Longtime Siskiyou County resident Eleanor Lucille Nystrom passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 25, 2012. She was 88 years old.
Eleanor was born on Nov. 28, 1923 in Santa Cruz, Calif. to Roy F. and Mary L. Churchill. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1941. She spent her time after high school working in real eastate in San Francisco, where she met her beloved husband of 38 years.
Eleanor married Norvell Bergstrom Nystrom on July 26, 1953 in Carmel, Calif. They shared the passion for RVing with friends, going on cruises and playing bridge. Norve and Eleanor made their way to Yreka in 1967, where they raised their family. They have two children, Brett J. Nystrom and Karen N. Thayer. Eleanor was an active member in Beta Sigma Phi since 1968 and played in the local bridge club.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Norvell B. Nystrom on May 10, 1991.
Survivors include her son Brett J. Nystrom and his partner Gina Husebo of Yreka; her daughter Karen Thayer and son-in-law Butch R. Thayer of Sequim, Wash. She is also survived by her sister Catherine Howard of Yreka. Eleanor has six grandchildren, Christina Lundberg of Washington, Brandyn Nystrom of Fresno, Brenda Nystrom of Yreka, Justin Thayer of Texas, Bryan Nystrom of Yreka and James Thayer of Sequim. Eleanor was a proud great-grandmother of seven.
