NASHVILLE - Vernon Carl Batchelor, Sr., retired farmer from the Sandy Cross Community of Nashville, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012. He was born in Nash County June 13, 1924 to the late William and Mary Batchelor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Vernon Batchelor was an active tobacco farmer for over sixty years. He was also known for being able to make and repair most anything. He loved his family most of all, but would give "The shirt off his back" to anyone in need. In addition to his parents, Mr. Batchelor was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Beaman Batchelor; sister, Lessie Batchelor; brother, W.T. Batchelor and a daughter in law, Julie Batchelor.
He is survived by his sons, Vernon Carl Batchelor, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Van Batchelor of the home; sister, Myrtle Vick of Nashville; daughter in law, Susan Batchelor of Nashville; grandchildren, Lauren Barnes and husband Cody of Rocky Mount, Justin Batchelor of Nashville, Gray, Clay and Carly Batchelor of the home; great grandchildren, Landon and Avery Barnes of Rocky Mount.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
