Charlotte Imogene Simmons Vass, 86, of Oak Hill, died March 27, 2007.
Born July 7, 1920, at Beury Mountain, she was the daughter of the late John Albert and Rachel Jane Boley Simmons. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Hughes Vass; brothers, L.A. "Arnett" Simmons, Arnold B. ?Bunny? Simmons and William H. "Buck" Simmons; sisters, Margie Long and Rachel Legg; son-in-law, the Rev. Lloyd Higginbotham; and daughter-in-law, Jean Keller Vass. Mrs. Vass was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a resident at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill for the past 10 years, where she peacefully departed this life surrounded by her family and the loving, caring staff.
Mrs. Vass was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill and last attended Page Baptist Church. She was a former cook, owner and operator of Bradley Cut-Rate Drug Store and Hardware.
Surviving: a daughter, Ruth Ann Higginbotham of Oak Hill; sons, Bobbie Vass and wife, Becky, of Dunkirk, N.Y., and Ronald David Vass of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Lisa Green and husband, Robert, of MacArthur, Cindy Massey of Clayton, N.C., Leslie Miller and husband, Chris, of Williamstown, Kelli Hill and husband, Jason, of Williamstown, Jeff Vass and wife, Tracey, of Charlotte, N.C., Deanna Hunnicut and husband, John, of Navarre, Fla., Terry Vass of Florida and Dale Vass of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Natalie Worley, Cameron Green, Kayla and Cynthia Massey, Brooke, Parker and Grant Miller, Sidney, Garrett and Gavin Hill, Noah Vass, Stephen and Bobby Trahant, and John and Benjamin Hunnicut; and sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Simmons of Bradley and Eva Simmons of Sarasota, Fla.
Service was March 29 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Entombment was at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum No. 1, Beckley.
