Marilyn was the daughter of George Wesley Murphy and Dorothy May Moore Murphy. She had three brothers, Douglas Eugene Murphy, Gary Howard Murphy (deceased), and George Dennis Murphy. She married James Harold Dale at the home of her parents in LeRoy, Kansas, on October 5, 1957, at the age of 18. They were the parents of Jay Lynn Dale, Jamie Leigh Dale, Jan Laurie Dale, Justin Lance Dale (deceased) and Jill L. Dale. They were later divorced. Marilyn died of cancer at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas, on June 15, 1997.
