PORTAL, Ga. — Mr. Archie Douglas "Doug" Finch Sr. died Monday morning at his residence, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a graduate of Portal High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II on the USS Birmingham. Following his military service, Doug returned to Bulloch County and worked on the family farm. He later began a 33-year career with the Bulloch County Board of Education, retiring as the director of Trans-portation. Doug was a charter member of the Baygall Hunting Club and a member of the Rocky Ford Masonic Lodge, where he was past master. He was an active member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and had served on several church committees.

Mr. Finch was preceded in death by his wife, Opie Daughtry Finch; and his parents, David R. and Effie Beasley Finch.

Surviving are his fiancée, Dot Parrish of Portal; a son, Archie Finch of Portal; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Finch Thomas and Scott Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle Oglesby officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ray Jenkins. Interment will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and members of the Baygall Hunting Club.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
