Jose Perez Aflague, is a Veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines, having served in WWII. He was a chartered member of the American Merchant Marine Veterans Association AMMV, Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of Biloxi Mississippi. The Gulf Coast chapter first met in Biloxi, Mississippi in the summer of 2000, whereby the Constitution and By-Laws, and officers were elected. Jose Perez Aflague, was elected the first President of the organization, and organizer of the organization. Of the 103 original members of the organization, only one member is still living in December of 2020.

Mr. Perez was a native of Guam, 1925. Sailed aboard the Maiden Eye-Liberty Ship in 1945 to Saipan, Guam, Palau, and the Caroline Islands. A second voyage to Saipan, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He attended college and became an electrical engineer. He was held as a prisoner of war in Guam for 6 years by the Japanese. After being released, he joined the U.S. Airforce and retired as an SMSGT with 28 years of military service. He served the Air Force in Korea and Vietnam passing away September 4, 2005, in Biloxi Mississippi.
