Frances Louise "Weesie" Matthews, 88, of Bay City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 with family members at her side. She was born in Bay City, TX on June 3, 1924 to the late Charles Marmaduke & Rose Louise Sexton Amos. Louise served as a nursing student in the US Army Medical Corps stationed at Dallas during WWII and graduated as a registered nurse from Baylor University in 1946. She worked as an RN for more than 50 years, first at Matagorda County General Hospital (1946-1990) and later at The Legacy Campus Nursing Center (1990-2008). She also worked for a time as the Director of Nurses at both facilities. Among Louise's great passions in life was serving with her church family and singing in the choir as a member of The Jubilaires. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Louise was a beloved member of the community who tirelessly served the needs of family, friends and community. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose Louise Sexton and Charles Marmaduke Amos, and by her husband Steve Matthews. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Frances Chilton and her husband Frank, and by a son William (Bill) Cantrell and his wife Mindy, a grandson Matthew Mutschler, and a granddaughter Tiffany Price. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday October 5th at 1st Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be: Bill Cantrell, Frank Chilton, Matthew Mutschler, Gary Matthews, Robbie Noster, and Bobby Head. Honorary Pallbearer will be Shawn Ferguson.
